Shaker Card Fun | Not 2 Shabby Paper Pad Club

Hi friends! Today I'm popping in with a little inspiration featuring the Not 2 Shabby February Paper Pad Club. If you want to watch it unfold, you can check out my process video on the Not 2 Shabby YouTube channel.

I've always been a bit of a hot mess when it comes to shaker cards. I overfill, I underfill, I get to excited and forget to add the acetate. So today I'm testing out a method I saw somewhere that uses a word die with shadow for the shaker and a large enough panel that you can leave one side unsealed while you determine if you have enough shaker bits, then add or subtract. It worked like a charm and I love how this sweet shaker card turned out.

Shaking It Up

Hi friends! Today I'm popping in with a sweet shaker card featuring the Watermelon Summer Ephemera  from Not 2 Shabby's June release.

I had tons of fun creating a smooshed background on watercolor paper. I just love that vibrant green, don't you? I pulled out the EZ Wonder Die #2 and Add Ons #2 to create a fun shaker with all sorts of melon-y sequin-y goodness.  I added a couple of pieces of ephemera to the bottom corners of the oval, then added a sentiment from last year's Main Squeeze stamp set to a die cut banner from EZ Wonder Die #1. I accented with a watermelon sticker from the Sweet Summer Cottage PET Tape and finished off with a gingham bow.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope you have a fabulous day!

Love from Lizi Thinking of You Shaker

Happy Valentine's Day! I'm so excited to share this sunny shaker card I made with the February Love from Lizi Card Kit. I wanted to give the beautiful ephemera pieces a little extra flair, so I decided to turn it into a shaker card!

For this card, I went with a bright and cheerful color scheme using the sunny yellow and navy cardstock from the kit. I just love that butter yellow – it reminds me of sunshine! To add some texture, I used the Dotty Stencil from the kit and applied clear texture paste to the yellow cardstock. While that dried, I got to work on the shaker element.

I was really drawn to the mirrored polaroid frame included in the kit, so I decided to give it a makeover to match my colors. I painted the whole frame with Uncharted Mariner Distress Paint and then sprayed it with some mica spray for a touch of shimmer and texture. I love how it turned out!

For the shaker, I glued one of the floral ephemera pieces just below the acetate window and another on the outside of the frame. I filled the shaker with a mix of clear rhinestones from the kit, flatback pearls, sequins, and beads. To make sure there were always some sparkles showing, I glued a few of the shaker bits down to the yellow cardstock and let the rest flow freely.

To finish the card, I typed a sentiment on my typewriter, cut it into a banner shape, and adhered it to a scrap of yellow cardstock. I love how this card turned out – it's so bright and cheerful!

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope you have a fabulous day!

Winter Wonderland Shaker Card

Hi friends, today I'm sharing a little winter wonderland shaker card I created with the new Festive Christmas quarterly release and EZ Wonder dies from Not 2 Shabby.  I just love these gingerbread houses and knew I wanted to make a shaker with one as the center piece.

After cutting the square with the round circle cut out from the Festive Christmas Paper Pad, I then found some scallop circle dies in my stash to create a little frame for my shaker hole.  I created the shaker with acetate and then tucked the Gingerbread House ephemera on top of the acetate before adhering so it sits on top  and the snowflake sequins fall behind.  I used a few photo corner dies to dress up the corners and add to the country charm of the main image.

The sentiment is from the Mini Messages set in the Festive Christmas I Want it All Bundle and I die cut it with the EZ Wonder #1 Add Ons and matted with one of the banners from the EZ Wonder #1 Die. I added a couple stripes of thin ribbon, then accented with a fussy cut bow from the Ephemera Pack to finish things off.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope you have a fabulous weekend!

Hedge-hugs

Hi friends! Happy Friday! I love fall pumpkins so much, I've pretty much been focused on fall all month long. Today I'm turning my focus to the hedgehogs in the Not 2 Shabby September Box of the Month. This little guy reading his book in the Hedgehugs stamp set just makes me smile.

I decided to make a shaker element with the oval dies from the EZ Wonder #2 and EZ Wonder Add Ons 2 dies and pulled out some stylized rectangle dies from my stash to finish the card. I tucked in a couple of pieces of ephemera to ground my little hedgehog, then added a few sparkling enamel dots on the outer edges for accent.

My second card features a couple of my favorite pieces of ephemera from the Hedge Hugs Ephemera Pack. I dressed them up  with gel pen accents, then used some paper scraps I had left over from other cards to create this fun mini slimline card.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope you have a fabulous day!

Sunshiny Days

Hi friends! Today I'm popping in with a little inspiration featuring the August Paper Pad Club, the August Stamp and Die of the Month, as well as the new EZ Wonder Die #2. I love the sunflower theme and earthy color combo of this month's collection.

To start off with I cut the EZ Wonder Die #2 from a sheet from the Watercolor Fields paper and a sheet of the Watercolor Backgrounds paper in this month's paper pad club. I knew I wanted to make a shaker with the oval cutout, so backed the gingham rectangle with acetate and added some thick foam tape and some diamond dots and clay sunflowers to create the shaker. This was mounted onto a 3.75" x 5" rectangle of patterned paper.

For the sentiment bar, I took the rectangle with the thanks cut out in the yellow print, then layered the skinny rectangle from the green print over it. It covers the cutouts perfectly.  I tucked in a piece of the add on Sunflowers Ephemera Pack, then added a sentiment stamp from the Stand Strong stamp of the month set and cut with the coordinating dies. A few sparkling enamel dots finished things off.

For the second card, I stamped out the sunflowers from the Stand Strong set, then colored with Copic markers and cut with the coordinating dies. I grabbed the leftover oval and rectangle die cuts from the EZ Wonder pieces I had cut previously and inlaid the green oval in the yellow paper.  I then arranged my sunflower images, adding the top flower on three layers of die cuts to add dimension.  I added the with sympathy sentiment on three layers of die cuts as well.

Next up I added a bit of brown liquid pearls to the flower centers to add some detail and dimension. Sparkling enamel dots and a couple of photo corner die cuts from my stash finished things off.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope you have a super creative day.

Flowery Meadow

Hi friends! Today I'm popping in with a little inspiration featuring the Not 2 Shabby April Paper Pad Club. Earlier this month I shared projects with the Life Begins after Coffee pad, so today I'm working with the Flowery Meadow paper pad.

This paper pad has a page of cut aparts as one of the designs that you can cut by hand or with a scan 'n cut machine.  I did that for todays cards.

For my first card, I did a paper collage technique, just tearing different papers and piecing them together for a cohesive background. I borrowed a sentiment from the Spring Gnome sentiment to stamp on the lined paper, then die cut in a circle. I matted with some of the green sparkle paper from the pad. I layered a few of the floral pieces from the cut apart page for my main focal point, then accented with sparkling enamel dots.

For my second card, I used the EZ Wonder Die #1 with papers from the pad to create a shaker window.  I accented with more of the cut apart images, then fussy cut one of the flowers from the purple paper to add to the flag banner.  The sentiment is from the Tropical Leaves set and cut with the coordinating dies. I layered some more of the designs, adding some white scallop edges as borders to finish things off.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope you have a fabulously creative day!

Gnome One Like You

Hi friends! It's my day to share a little inspiration over on the Jaded Blossom blog. Today I've got a little shaker valentine's card I created with the My Gnomie stamp set and the Rectangle Dies and Scallop Rectangle Dies.

I love this little image and sentiment stamp from the My Gnomie set, and thought it would make a great shaker card. I stamped the main stamp and the coordinating gnomie onto white cardstock, then colored with Copic markers. I cut the extra gnome image with the coordinating My Gnomie Outline Dies and then glued over the image. I also stamped the little circle "you" letters in red and fussy cut to add a little extra interest.

The shaker portion is created with a mix of the Rectangle Dies 1 and 2 and the Scallop Rectangle Dies.  I added a custom mix of sequins from my stash, then finished off with a card mat layer that was dry embossed with a heart embossing folder.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope you have a fantastic day!

Jaded Blossom Supplies Used:

Gingerbread House Shaker

Hi friends! It's the first Sunday of a new month and that means it's time to reveal a new challenge on the Jaded Blossom blog. This month the challenge is to add a touch of gold. I hope you can play along!

November Challenge:
TOUCH OF GOLD
(must use at least one Jaded Blossom Product)

When the Build a Booth Gingerbread House Add Ons released, I really wanted to make a pastel version. I remember Christmases past at my grandmother's with pastel pinks, greens, and golds. So when I saw this month's challenge, I decided it was a sign to create a pastel version. I cut my pieces from white cardstock and gold matte cardstock, then sponged a light pink ink on the pink pieces. I pulled out my hot foil machine and added some gold foil to the roof and chimney pieces. It isn't super noticeable, but it does add a little shine and helps to accentuate the scored details.

As I was building my booth, I decided it would make a fun shaker card, so added some acetate behind the opening and built my shaker with a bit of patterned paper and some Prima patterned paper. I then added some Christmas lights from the Build a Booth: Christmas Add Ons set to deck out the roofline. I liked my finished house so much, I wanted it to be the center of attention, so decided to make it a shaped card.  I trimmed off the excess of the booth so just the roof line of the house showed, then created a folded card the size of the back of the booth to finish things off.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope you have a fabulous day!

Spooky Fun Video Hop

Hi friends! I'm popping in today with a little spooky Halloween fun. I'm taking part in a #craftyfunspooky fun video hop on YouTube with some friends of mine from the Crafty Fun with Friends of LV Handcrafted group on Facebook. The theme is spooky fun, so I decided to make a fun Halloween shaker card. You can watch the video below or on my You Tube Channel.

I started by coloring this fun little vampire gnome from the Jaded Blossom Boo Crew stamp set with Copic markers then die cutting with the coordinating outline dies. Once my gnome was all dressed up and ready to go, I started in on my background.  I used both distress and distress oxides in candied apple, lumberjack plaid, aged mahogany, and black soot.

After I finished the background, I pulled out the Coffin Die and used the coffin mat die to create a shaker window for the card.  On the cut out piece I embossed the sentiment in black, then glued it to the card base and layered up the acetate window and foam tape on the back of the main background panel.  I added a mix of sequins and clay embellishments to finish off the shaker.

I then pulled out the bat from the Gnome Dies: Halloween Add Ons, coloring with Copics, then assembling and fluffing up his wings.  I finished with a few sequins scattered around the edges of the card.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope you have a super creative weekend!

Jaded Blossom September Sneaks Day 3

Hi friends! It's the final day of sneak peeks before tomorrow's Jaded Blossom release! Today we're peeking our first makes with Corny Halloween with Outline Die and the Enchanted Night Sky Stencil Freebie. It's only available as a free gift with a $50 purchase that includes at least one new release item through Friday, while supplies last. The Gotta Have it Now Package is available now and release items will be available for purchase individually tomorrow.

How cute is this franken-candy from the Corny Halloween set? I just had to use him for today's card! I'm a big candy corn fan for decorating, although I don't really like to eat it. For this card, I colored up the franken-candy with alcohol markers, then cut with the outline die.

Next I pulled out the new Candy Corn Stencil and inked it up with brown, green, and white inks on lime cardstock.  I thought a shaker would be fun, so used the Stitched Circles and Scallop Circle Dies to create a circle window and frame.

Next I pulled out the spider from the Gnome Dies: Graveyard Add Ons and the candy corn dies from the Build a Booth: Halloween Add ons and colored them up with Copics to coordinate with the card colors.  I layered my images on top of the shaker, placing some Doodlebug Monster Madness paper behind the shaker and then using the same patterned paper for the sentiment.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I'll be back tomorrow with our new release blog hop!

Jaded Blossom August Release Sneaks Day 1

Hi friends! Today marks the start of sneak peeks for the August Release at Jaded Blossom! This month our gnomes are hitting the great outdoors. I hope you'll follow along as we share our makes leading up to this Thursday's release. Today our gnomes are hitting the lake for a fishing excursion as we share our first looks at the Gnome Dies: Fishing Add Ons, Best Fishes, Best Fishes Outline Dies, and the Fish Stencil.

I always seem to be running out of space on my gnome cards, so I ordered some 5 x 7 card bases and decided to try my hand at some A7 sized cards. A new size is always fun to play with!  For this one, I started with a panel I smooshed with some blue, green and gray inks, then I pulled out the new Fish Stencil and stenciled over it with green ink.

Next I decided I wanted to do a shaker card so the background could show through.  I cut a thin rectangle from navy cardstock for the window, leaving space on the side for what I had intended to be another window using the long fish die cut in the fishing add on set, but my measuring went wrong and I had already assembled things, so moved on without it. I'll have to do one with a fish shaped shaker down the road! It sounds fun.

My gnomie started with the original Gnome Dies base, then I decked him out with a fishing pole, hat and lure accent using dies from the new Gnome Dies: Fishing Add Ons. Love this hat so much. All my gnome pieces were cut from distress watercolor paper and sponged with distress inks.  I added Copic accents to his beard and mustache, then added him to the front of the shaker.  I finished with a sentiment from the new Best Fishes set, die cut with the coordinating Best Fishes Outline Dies.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope you enjoyed this little peek at these fun new fishing themed products! The official release is set for Thursday, but if you can't wait, you can purchase the Gotta Have it Now Package today and have it shipped right away. See you tomorrow for another sneak peek at this fabulous release.

Aloha Shaker

Hi friends! I'm back with another card featuring Poolside goodies from Not 2 Shabby. I just can't get enough of this fun collection!  For today's card I wanted to create a little shaker to showcase one of the beautiful flower ephemeras in the Poolside Ephemera pack.

I added the ephemera on dimensional foam tape to a white cardstock tag. I then stamped the aloha sentiment from the Tropical Leaves set and cut with coordinating dies to add coming off one edge of the ephemera.  The shaker front is cut using the same tag die from a piece I had stenciled inn pinks and blues with the Tropical Leaf Stencil. I then used a die to cut a rectangle out of the center to create the shaker window. The scallop topper of the tag die set was cut from a beautiful print in the Poolside Paper Collection.  Once my shaker was assembled, I added it to another print from the Poolside paper, adding a thin blue mat and a ribbon behind.

I finished off with a palm leaf from the Tropical Leaves set, colored with Copics and then cut with the coordinating Tropical Leaves Die Set.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope you have a fantastic day!

Jaded Blossom March Challenge

Hi friends! It's time for a new monthly challenge over at Jaded Blossom. This month's theme is super easy - anything goes! Just use at least one Jaded Blossom product on your entry and you'll be in the drawing for a free stamp set.

March Challenge:

ANYTHING GOES!
(must use at least one Jaded Blossom Product)

I had to have the Floral Bunny Ears set last year when it came out, but I ran out of time to make a card with it. So no better time than now to color it up and cut it out with the coordinating outline die.

During the February Cardmakers Success Summit there was a class on making shaker cards with word dies, do I decided to give it a try. Shaker cards and I are usually a recipe for disaster. I always forget something important and end up with a mess, but this was super easy and worked well for me.  I cut the easter word and shadow from a rectangle die cut of Doodlebug Hippity Hoppity paper, then created a shaker with a shiny sequin mix.

Next I masked off the easter from the hoppy easter sentiment stamp, and stamped just the hoppy above the easter shaker element. I then finished off the card with a bow tie cut with the Bow Dies.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope you have a fabulously creative day. We'd love to see you play along in the challenge. Head on over to the Jaded Blossom Blog for all the challenge details and more inspiration from my teamies.
