Fringe Party

Hi friends!  It's the first Friday of a new month of Viva la Verve sketches, and that means I'm kicking things off with this week's fun new sketch!

In addition to the sketch, I also had a couple other challenges in mind when I was making this card. Verve's inspiration challenge theme this month is Celebrate, so I went all party hardy on this one.  And I also used the DTGD15fattire7 challenge on Splitcoaststampers.  {The Dare to Get Dirty challenges are open to SCS fan club members, so we're supposed to keep the details over in the DTGD forum.}

I started by cutting the Flourished Tag die from white cardstock and stamping the circle pattern border from Deco Borders down the side.  I chose rainbow colors from my set of Zig Clean Color brush markers, then sponged around the edges of the tag with tumbled glass ink.  I hand trimmed a black mat for the tag, then hand sketched a soft little sketchy frame.  The flower is the Fringe Flower plain jane and I colored it with the same colors of markers, fussy cut and then added a bit of sparkle with glossy glaze and glitter. I've always loved this flower and it's one of the stamps that's 50% off during our Anni-VERVE-sary sale this month.

The tag at the bottom is from the Flag It Die Set and is sponged with tumbled glass and also has a little sketchy frame, and I finished off with some enamel dots.  My favorite part of the card is that embossed background.  It's made with the Woven Next Level embossing folder from American Crafts.  And it's A-MAZING!  {grin}  So much texture and depth.  They are large folders (6 x 6) I think and because they're so deeply etched you need a different sandwich.  On my Big Shot I used the main platform without tabs, the folder and then a cutting plate on top.  Crazy beautiful.  I sponged around the edges to match the rest of the card and I was finished.

Watercolor Lines

Hi friends!  I'm up on the Viva la Verve blog today with a recap of Jen's VLV July Week 5 sketch. My VLV coffee card on Friday was filled to the brim, so I took a more relaxed simplified take on the sketch for today's card.

For my birthday, I got some of the Zig Clean Color Brush markers, so decided to take them for a spin. I pulled out my trusty ruler and started by drawing lines with a light turquoise marker, then went over the second half with a darker shade. I pulled out a water brush and then went over the lines for a fun watercolor background.

Next I had to try a technique I saw Kylie use for the glitter splatter. I dropped a bit of glue on a craft sheet, then added water to it and splattered on my water colored background. Then I added the latte colored glitter. The floral image from Floral Notes is stamped onto a stitched circle die cut and I water colored with the clean color markers.  I added a bit of glitter to match to the flower centers, then rounded a sentiment from Small Phrases to add to my circle. This piece is matted with black and then I tucked a bit of iridescent cording behind for some pizzazz.

That's all for today! I'll be back tomorrow with our August Diva Inspirations Hop and challenge!

One of a Kind

Hi friends!  Welcome to August!  Today I'm sharing a card for one of the Dare to Get Dirty challenges over on Splitcoaststampers. They start today and run for one week and there are lots of prizes, including some from Verve.

I made a fun little square card, stamping the 4.25" tip top taupe base with the honeycomb image from The Buzz, then I added the BE and You-tiful stamps in the corner, with a few teeny bees fluttering around.

Next I started on my focal point, a little doodle I did to test out my new Kuretake watercolors.  After I finished water coloring the flower, I did a wash of the pearly watercolor, but it didn't turn out the way I expected, so I pulled out some stencils to rescue the project.  First I used scattered straw with a honeycomb stencil, then tumbled glass with the dots stencil.  I distressed the edges with tip top taupe and black soot, then splattered some watered down black soot on top.

The mat is baja breeze, sponged with the same colors and then I added black liquid pearl accents.  I finished off by adding some white liquid gel pen accents to the bees.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Coffee Buzz

Hi friends!  It's Friday and time for another Viva la Verve Sketch.  This is the final sketch in our July series, so be sure to link up your entries by next Thursday for a chance to win our $100 Verve gift voucher prize drawing!  This week's fun sketch is from Jen!

I originally planned to do a card with soft pastel scraps, stitch them together and go all shabby chic. But when I sat down to stamp all I could think about was coffee and the first pad I pulled out was this World Traveler collection of papers, so my theme was set.

I cut the strips of paper randomly, then pieced them together and glued onto a 4 x 5.25" piece of cardstock, sponging each panel with tip top taupe.  The sentiment is from The Buzz and I added the coffee cup from Get Together above, then paper pieced it in coordinating papers.  The steam is from the Coffee set and I stamped it on tip top taupe, then colored with a copic and a white gel pen.  After a little stamp surgery, I used one of the coffee beans from the Coffee set to randomly stamp around my background, then finished off my stitched circle with a black mat and black liquid pearl accents.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!  I hope you have a wonderful start to your weekend!

Mint Serenity

Hi friends!  I found a little time to sneak into my stamp studio last night, so thought I'd pop in and share.  The layout is this week's SCS551 sketch challenge and since I had the new in-colors on my desk and never used, decided to take them for a spin!

I started by stamping the serenity prayer from the Sparkly Dreams set in black on tiptop taupe, then sponging around the edges of the panel with tip top taupe and matting with black. Next I randomly stamped the butterfly from the same set in mint macaron on the same color paper for a subtle background, and sponged the edges with mint macaron and then tip top taupe.

I cut a strip of black for the top diagonal strip and used the Award Banner Trim Die for the second diagonal.  The butterfly is stamped in mint macaron and cut with the coordinating Butterfly Dreams Die Set.  I finished off with black liquid pearl accents on the flourish part of the sentiment as well as on the diagonal strip.  Also added flat back pearls to the butterfly body and in between each loop on the Award Banner trim.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Silvery Note

Hi friends!  It's the last Monday of the month and that means it's tall & skinny week at Mojo Monday. I love the challenge of thinking outside my typical box, so these weeks are always super fun for me to create for.

I had a jam packed weekend filled with birthday fun, so my card for today is a super quick one made from scraps.  I picked out a green paper I loved and used it as the background and also for cutting the butterflies with the Butterfly Dreams Die Set.  I added a woodgrain doily scrap of dp for the horizontal piece, then stitched on a piece of silver polka dotted vellum.  The sentiment is from the Floral Notes set and is cut and matted with the stitched circles dies, then I finished off with a teeny clothespin and a bit of lace trim. Finished card size is 3.5" x 5.5".

Thanks so much for stopping by today.  I hope you have a wonderful start to the week!

On My Mind

Hi friends!  It's Friday again and time for another installment in our July Viva la Verve sketch series. This week's sketch comes from the fabulous Stacey.  I loved the little file folder accent, so that's where I started on my card.

I pulled out some My Mind's Eye papers, sponged them with pumice stone and layered them together. The file folder was cut with my envelope punch board and I accented below it with a strip of black rhinestones.  I stamped the large poppies image from Floral Notes on white cardstock and cut out with the coordinating Floral Notes Die Set.  Then I stamped the image again on yellow dp and paper pieced the flowers, coloring the leaves with a copic marker and then sponging with antique linen ink.  The sentiment is also from the Floral Notes sentiment and I finished off with some black square rhinestones down the side.  To give a bit of definition, but not add any bulk, I then traced around most of the layers with a basic black marker.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!  I hope you have a fabulous weekend!

I'm the first stop on today's hop, so grab your favorite refreshment and settle in for a hopping good time!  It's also Friday, so this is my sample for the July Week 2 Viva la Verve sketch hosted by Marisa.

So, do you see the graphic below that Sarah chose for this month's inspiration?  I just love a sandy beach and was so inspired by the colors I got right to work. I started by stamping the Deco Borders trim on the Flourished Tag die cut.  I also cut the tag in crumb cake and clear acetate.  Next I stamped the same border in smoky slate on smoky slate, then cut with stitched circles.  I made a frame by layering two stitched circles dies and cut from bashful blue.  I cut another smaller stitched circle from bashful blue to layer under my flowers (totally inspired by Wanda's Mojo card this week). Next I pulled out the smaller poppy image from Floral Notes, cut it with the coordinating die from the Floral Notes Die Set and then watercolored with marina mist ink, adding a bit of glue and glitter to make the centers stand out.

For my stripes I added a layer of crumb cake embossed with stripes and then I used a white pencil to color the stripes to give a sandy sort of look.  The next cream layer is embossed with an SU! frame embossing folder and I matted again with crumb cake and layered onto a cream card base.

Finally, I stamped the birthday blessings sentiment from Floral Notes in archival black on the acetate Flourished Tag.  I layered everything togethr and punched a hole in the tags with my cropadile, then threaded some ribbon from the Signature Ribbon Collection through the hole and tied in a bow.

Okay, next up on the hop is Amy!  You can find the full hop list below.

Our July challenge is Sensational Stripes

Butterfly Future

Hi friends!  I'm popping in today to change up the scenery.  I've had this graduation card sitting on my desk for a few weeks and I finally remembered to take a photo of it.  It's now one step closer to actually getting in the mail!

Anyhow, it's been so long, I don't remember my exact process, but I know I used distress inks on some neutral patterned papers, embossing with a butterfly embossing folder and then splattering watered down gesso all around.  I added the Flourished Trim Die to the bottom of my background, accenting with liquid pearls.   The Eleanor Roosevelt quote from Sparkly Dreams is stamped in archival black, and I added a bit of pumice stone and black soot inks to give it a little depth.  The butterfly stamp was inked up with distress markers and then stamped for a variegated effect. I cut it with the coordinating Butterfly Dreams Die Set and then added some glossy glaze and glitter.

I embellished the bottom of the sentiment panel with two of the leaf images in the Butterfly Dreams Die Set and added an enamel star to the center.  I finished by masking off a stamp so that just the Graduation stamped, then added the 2015 using the Calendar Countdown  set.

Well, that's all for me today.  Thanks so much for stopping by!

Silver Sparkle

Hi friends!  Happy Tuesday!  I'm up on the Viva la Verve blog today with this week's sketch recap.

I started my card with the papers I still had on my desk from my Mojo Monday card.  No surprise that I loved the aquas in the paper pack, so went for a subtle card using stitched circle dies.  I decided to do a shaker card with the square in the sketch inside the circle, embossing the sentiment from Sparkly Dreams in silver on vellum, then tucking some Aqua Skies Shaker Mix behind.

The butterfly is stamped in Lost Lagoon, colored with a wink of stella clear pen, cut out with the coordinating Butterfly Dreams Die Set, then given a healthy coat of glossy glaze and glitter.  I added a bit of ribbon across the center for embellishment and I was done.  Super easy, super fun and an itty bitty 4.25" square card.

Sorry there's a bit of glare on my photo.  My photo studio is out in the garage and with temps reaching 108 degrees here, walking into the garage and turning on photo lights is pure misery.  So I did the quickest photo session I think I've ever done! Zip, zap, done! {grin}

Thanks for stopping by today!  I hope you have a fabulous Tuesday!

Listen to Your Soul

Hi friends!  It's Monday again and time for a brand new Mojo Monday sketch.  This week is tall and skinny, which always makes me giddy with the possibilities of hanging something off the edge of a card and still fitting it in an envelope.  {grin}

As I was flipping through paper pads to find something to work with, I came across this paper that says listen to your soul.  I absolutely felt inspired, as this is something I need to remind myself often. I find myself listening to all the voices running through my head about what other people might think of what I do or say, instead of following that soul fire inside of me that I should know by now will guide me true.  As I was thinking of soul fire, it made me think of that awesome steam Chaitali illustrated for the Coffee set, so in an instant I knew I had to make a coffee card.  {grin}

So I started by cutting that strip of paper for my horizontal strip, then adding some pumpkin pie butterflies from the  Get Together set.  I then stamped the cup from  Get Together on white, paper pieced with some aqua star paper and then stamped the steam from the Coffee set over the top and colored with Copics.  My layers are all sponged with pumice stone, then I matted with smoky slate and added some platinum liquid pearls.  The butterfly is cut with the new Butterfly Dreams Die Set and I added a few aqua rhinestones for the body.  My finished card size is 3.5" x 5.5" (plus a touch of an overhanging butterfly).

Thanks so much for stopping by today.  I hope you have a chance to listen to your soul and enjoy this coming week.

Future Dreams

Hi friends!  It's Monday morning and time for a brand new Mojo Monday sketch.  I had a lot of fun with this one, playing with some of the fabulous new Verve sets  just released this weekend!

When I sat down to stamp yesterday my only plan was that I wanted to use this Eleanor Roosevelt quote from the Sparkly Dreams set, so that's where I started.  I had also envisioned popping up some of the poppies in the Floral Notes set and rounding the edges to give them some more dimension, so decided to try that out, too.

So I stamped the large poppy image twice in archival black ink, then watercolored with distress inks and a waterbrush.  I cut one image out with the coordinating die from the Floral Notes Die Set, then fussy cut four of the blooms from the other stamped image, curled the edges with my fingers and glued over the top of my die cut image.  I added some glossy glaze and a pinch of glitter to each flower center for a little zing.  The sentiment from Sparkly Dreams is stamped onto a circle die cut and I embellished with some orange rhinestones.

The long thin pennant is stamped in pumpkin pie with the double wheat image from Sparkly Dreams, then I layered some fun patterned papers, sponging each layer with some distress ink for a little bit of depth and finished with a white card base.  Super easy and a whole lot of fun!

Thanks so much for stopping by today!  If you haven't checked out the Verve release, head on over.... all of our stamps & dies, including the new releases are 10% off right now! And of course, I'd love to see what you do with the mojo sketch, so be sure to link up if you play along!  :)

A Good One Day 6 Post Release Hop

Hi friends!  Welcome to Day 6 of our June New Release Spotlight Hops!

This release week has been so much fun, thanks for hopping along with us!  Today is the final day of our spotlight hops and today's theme is Diva's Choice.  Always a favorite, this is the day we all get to choose which set or sets to use and have some fun.  So grab a cup of your favorite beverage and settle in for one more fabulous first look at our newly released stamps & dies.  I'm the first stop along today's hop and today's prize is a doozy... the ENTIRE release!!!  So be sure to leave a little shout out as you hop about to be entered in our prize drawing!

One of my favorite stamps in the whole release is the honeycomb in The Buzz.  I really wanted to go for a realistic honeycomb look, so got out a few mixed-media supplies and just played.

For the background, I started by stamping the honeycomb pattern all over the crumb cake panel, connecting the pieces in parts and leaving a few openings here and there.  Next I cut a honeycomb die cut using The Buzz Die Set and used this as a stencil to add some modeling paste to the centers of the honeycombs randomly across the panel.  While the modeling paste was drying, I pulled out some book paper and created a little scroll by rolling each end down and gluing, leaving enough room to stamp the sentiment I wanted to use from Sparkly Dreams.  I spread on a bit of gesso over the book paper and once it dried I stamped the Lincoln quote in archival black.

Next I stamped the large bee and two small bees on cream cardstock. The large bee is cut with the coordinating die from The Buzz Die Set and I fussy cut the two smaller bees.  I colored them, then added a bit of glossy glaze to the large bee and set aside to dry.  Then I moved back to my honeycomb panel, where the modeling paste was mostly dry (I'm so impatient).  I sponged on fossilized amber and then sponged vintage photo and gather twigs ink randomly all over the panel, distressing the edges.

I then glued the scroll down to the honeycomb panel and used some Stamper's Big Brush pens to add shading and dimension to the scroll.  I stamped a honeycomb with fossilized amber on cream, then sponged all around with fossilized amber and cut with the coordinating die.  I layered this under my big glossy bee, then added the two little bees and finished off by distressing the crumb cake card base.

That's a wrap for me!  Thanks so much for taking the time to hop along with me this week.  I've thoroughly enjoyed every comment and am so grateful for the opportunity to share my stamps and my cards with you.  If you're interested, I have a simple masculine just-in-time for Father's Day card on the Verve Blog today, too.  Have a fantastic weekend!

Next up on the hop is the fabulous Stacey!
