Playing With Distress Oxide Sprays + a video

Hi friends! I'm excited to be popping in today sharing a couple of mixed-media cards, complete with a process video.  I've had a few of the Distress Oxide sprays since they released about a year ago and I just broke the shrink wrap on these right before I started filming! Best laid plans, right?

I had so much fun and loved how quickly this background came together with the sprays. Such vivid colors in the background gave me the option to do all my stamping in black, with no coloring.

I created the background by spritzing water onto cardstock, then spraying the two inks, misting some more and then heat setting. My cat actually attacked my heat gun (something she hates even more than the vaccuum cleaner) while I was heat setting and my project flipped over and I got a water line down the center of the page. To fix it, I simply mopped up some of my excess ink from my craft mat with a bit of plastic packaging and smooshed it on.

Some texture stamping with the Texture Tiles 3 stamp set and a bit of stenciling with gesso filled in any other places and gave a cohesive feel to the whole design.  I then cut my masterboard down to two 4 x 5.25" pieces for card fronts, with a little left over to pop up my dragonflies, as well as some for an extra project.  I darkened up the edges of the panels with distress oxide ink, then stamped the dragonflies from Dragonfly Dreams on the card panels.  A couple other wings and bodies on the excess pieces, then fussy cut and popped up on dimensional foam.

I quickly colored over each dragonly with a wink of stella glitter brush, then stamped the sentiments from Sentimental Mash-up with Catherine Pooler midnight ink. I LOVE this ink and how I get a fantastic impression every time. Plus it's archival!  I finished off with card bases and my two cards were done.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope you enjoy the video. You can view it above or on my YouTube channel.

Fabulous cards Julee - I must admit that those two colours together are one of my favourite combinations. Love how you brightened the background with the gesso stenciling

I did enjoy this, I never know what to do with the sprays and I love what you have come up with :) My cat isn't allowed in my craft room, I heard from others that their cat chews on stamps and when I had some new ones in the living room after purchasing them he went right for them, ugghhh! So no kitty company when I am crafting, LOL!
