Amazing Grace

Hi friends! I'm popping in today to share another fun card I made with the beautiful Grace So Amazing set.

I started by stamping tattered rose and worn lipstick distress oxides onto an acrylic block and then smooshing onto cardstock, adding a paperweight to it to let the ink transfer for a few minutes. The block has a nice shape to it, that I thought would pair well with this tag frame die. So I stamped over the top of the smooshed background with the amazing grace sentiment in black ink and then die cut.  I love this song so much!  Whenever I hear it, I remember when the twins were babies with severe colic and I was all alone in the house, with one in each arm screaming and screaming. I would just rock them in the rocking chair. tears streaming down my face, and sing this song over and over. It was the only thing that semi-soothed us all. 💗

The butterfly is from the previously released Made New set, one of my all-time favorite SNSS sets. I watercolored with the same distress oxide colors and then hand trimmed to pop up above the sentiment panel.  A few layers of pretty patterned paper with black mats and some baker's twine finish things off.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope you have a fabulous day filled with grace.

So beautiful, Julee....your card and your story.
This hymn has special significance to our family, also. My younger sister-in-law suffered from heart muscle atrophy and was struck down with a heart attack at the age of 40. She recovered to a degree but just a few years later was at the door to eternity to meet her beloved Savior.

Amazing Grace had always been a favorite hymn of hers. In the hospital during her final minutes this song started playing, apparently through the hospital PA system. My mother-in-law and older sister-in-law both hummed and half-sang along with the music while they sat with this dear family member in her last earthly moments. Then she was gone.

A nurse had been attending nearby throughout, quietly entering and leaving the room and doing whatever nurses do when a death is imminent...giving the right amount of respect and privacy. A short time later, when my older SIL felt okay to speak again after just losing her sister, she commented to the nurse about how appropriate that Amazing Grace had been playing in those last minutes. The nurse looked confused. My SIL persisted and said how nice it was that the hospital had a way of piping in music when someone was dying. The nurse shook her head, still perplexed. Patiently she explained "No, we never have music playing in the rooms...or have any way of doing so. I'm not sure what you heard, but it was not coming from the hospital!"

Amazing Grace heard (and sung along with) by both my MIL and SIL must have been coming from heaven itself....to greet our dear loved one as she gently slipped from this world to the next. "Amazing Grace...How sweet the sound!"
