Hi friends! It's time for a new TCP challenge and this month we're challenging you to decorate an envelope. Now, I don't know about you, but when I see a decorated envelope in my mail box I do a little happy dance. Sure a coupon from a favorite craft store is nice, but a honest to goodness snail mail package all happy to greet me? I'll take that any day! Here are all the challenge deets:
Each month a new challenge is posted on The Cat’s Pajamas blog and Facebook page.
- To play along, upload your design to the Inlinkz link up on The Cat’s Pajamas blog
- The Cat’s Pajamas products are NOT required, but we do LOVE to see them!
- Winner is announced the first Tuesday of the following month and will receive a $50 gift voucher to The Cat's Pajamas store.
Sounds fun, huh? Hope you can play along. Here's my take on the challenge...
I sometimes start getting a little ancy when it's been too long since I've made a coffee card! I love all types of stamps, but coffee really does make my heart go pitter patter. Add in some cute little penguins and I couldn't wait to put my idea to paper.
I started with the envelope, since that was the challenge! I recently got the adorable Sending You stamp set and thought it would be fun to send some coffee loving rainbows to a friend. I stamped the little postmark waves two times and then colored in rainbow order with Copic markers. (I tucked a bit of cardstock inside the envelope to keep the Copics from bleeding through to the other side. Next I stamped the Sending and Rainbows words in black and chose a sweet little penguin image from Big Cups. I colored the polka dots in rainbow colors, then added a bit of grey for the mug and orange for his beak and feet.
Next I moved on to the card. I started by stamping this little penguin who's hoping to find even the teeniest little drop of coffee in that empty cup! I colored with Copics, then used a black glaze pen to make him super black and shiny. Next I started on a rainbow background. I swiped Distress Oxide inks in rainbow order across a piece of cardstock, masking off with post-it tape where I didn't want the inks to blend. I then went over the panel with a waterbrush to smooth out the blends.
I played around with adding one of the Cups Duo Dies, using a portion of the rainbow background I had already made for the back of the cup, then cutting the top layer of the cup from black cardstock, swiping in Versamark and embossing with Sparkle embossing powder for a super shiny, shimmery look. The finished piece overpowered the card a bit, so I decided to turn it into a magnet, but die cutting the cup outline from an adhesive backed thin magnet and adding to the back of the cup. Now my recipient can have a rainbow cup magnet for their fridge!
