Naptime CAS Trio

Hi friends!  Happy Wednesday!  Yesterday I had the brilliant idea to make the kiddos walk themselves to our subdivision park and back instead of riding in the stroller, with the hopes that it would tire them out for their naps.  And it worked!  Hooray!  My hidden agenda was that I wanted time to play along with the Hope You Can Cling To challenges, which started yesterday.

I knew I needed to keep things clean & simple, since I had no idea if they'd sleep for 45 minutes of 3 hours. The first card I made was for Lydia's Inner Strength challenge.  I haven't made a card with a peephole for quite some time, and I thought it would be perfect for the Rain or Shine set.

Sorry about the photo, this was a hard one to capture with the white background and the umbrella portion being on the inside of the card.  I used a 1" circle punch for the umbrella, and paper pieced then doodled some stripes and dots on each section.  The rest of the circles are cut Nestabilities and I added some black liquid pearls around the inner gray circle for interest.  The sentiment from Rain or Shine is stamped on smoky slate and then I used some leftover "confetti" dots from cutting the Award Banner Trim Die above the sentiment.  The card base is embossed with the bubble wrapping folder from Tim Holtz.

Stamps: Rain or Shine (Verve Stamps)
Paper: Wild & Free (Glitz Designs), Smoky Slate, White
Ink: Black
Accessories: Circle Nestabilities (Spellbinders), Bubble Wrapping Texture Fades (Sizzix), liquid pearls, confetti dots from the Award Banner Trim Die from Verve

Next up was Lori's Courage and Strength challenge.  Reading about the meaning behind the colors orange and red got me to thinking about the Each Day set, so I pulled it out and got to work.  I wanted a strong, simple sentiment with a two toned look, so I masked off the bottom portion of the Psalm 31:24 scripture, then inked the upper portion of what remained with pumpkin pie and the lower with cherry cobbler.  The butterfly from Each Day is stamped in black, then colored with SU! markers and hand trimmed to pop up over the sentiment.  I embossed the background with the chicken wire embossing folder and was done!

Stamps: Each Day (Verve Stamps)
Paper: white, black
Ink: Pumpkin pie, cherry cobbler, black
Accessories: Chicken Wire embossing folder (Cuttlebug), Classic Circles Nestabilities (Spellbinders)

The final card I made during naptime was for Beate's Flat is Fabulous challenge.  I'm not really a one layer kind of gal, but I gave it a valiant effort with the new Poppy Birthday set.  I stamped the flowers randomly using all of the solid stamps in the set, first blushing bride, then crisp cantaloupe, then calypso coral and black for the center.  A few leaves stamped in black and colored with a Pear Pizzazz marker add a splash of interest and I finished off with the birthday sentiment.

Stamps: Poppy Birthday (Verve Stamps)
Paper: white, black
Ink: blushing bride, crisp cantaloupe, calypso coral, pear pizzazz black

Way to burn those boys out wink, wink! I used to take my kids for long walks all the time -- good for them and good for mommy sanity LOL!

Love the cards, especially the last one. Those poppies are stunning. Another EF to look out for too - love that chicken wire one!
