Viva la Scrap Pile

If you're looking for my CASE Study Anniversary Blog Hop post, click here.

Has anyone else been watching Craft Wars?  It's one of my new favorite shows!  I watch it with the boys every week, hoping they'll get the crafty gene by osmosis!!!  LOL  Even though I'm not really a DIY crafter I just love watching these artists make things out of crazy stuff!  And it gets my mind spinning in directions it wouldn't normally wander to.  So when I sat down to make this card I decided to challenge myself to use as many materials from my pile of rejects and box of scraps as possible.  These are embellishments, stamped images, sentiments, ribbon and paper scraps that for one reason or another didn't make it onto a previous card but I can't quite bring myself to throw away.  You know that pile of stuff that grows and grows and then you eventually either hide away or chuck out because you can't stand it on your desk any longer?  {Grin}

I started with the new Viva la Verve! August Week 2 sketch.  This one's from Janelle and is a super versatile one for borders and shapes. I knew I wanted to use dictionary paper, but I didn't have enough scraps for the full horizontal piece, so I decided to collage them together with some Tim Holtz tissue tape.  It was lots of fun and I loved how it turned out.

My flowers were extras I made but didn't use earlier this week and the sentiment panel was one that didn't make it onto a card a month or two ago.  Both are from the Joyful Blooms set.  The leaves are leftover black die cuts from the From the Heart Die Set, which I crimped with the paper crimper for a little texture and turned upside down to use as leaves.  There was a bit of burlap in my box, so I figured that would be perfect for the little semi circle piece.

The black border is the negative from a new die (Flourished Trim), which will be releasing August 24 from Verve.  I'd tested out the die and threw the leftover pieces in my scrap box.  I also used another new die (Pennant Trim) out of some book paper and some sticky back canvas scraps, then layered them together and distressed with ink pads.

The rose lace was added with staples, but I didn't like the way the staples looked, so I covered them with glass glitter.  Then it looked a little odd on just one side, so I added some to the other side and around the edge of the burlap as well.  I finished off with a bow from the reject box and some liquid pearl accents on the flower centers.

I can't believe it's already Friday!  I've had our nanny here extra hours this week so I could focus in on getting some of the behind the scenes work done for Verve's Anni-VERVE-sary release, and I thought I'd get so much more accomplished than I have!  One last day, so I better push hard!  :)

Thanks so much for stopping by today!  I hope you have a fantastic weekend!  If you get a chance be sure to check out the Viva la Verve! and Mojo Monday sketches and play along!

Here's a little pic of Kellan yesterday that I thought really captured his sweet personality.  The boys are officially 5 months old and full of giggles and smiles!

I just love that you rescued so many pieces from the scrap/reject pile. I can never seem to do that. Sweet picture of your boy. I'm hoping for an early post Monday about the Anni-Verve-sary release so that I can pack my crafty camping bin full of Verve. We're going to a lake in Eastern Washington where we will have absolutely zero service. I guess I will have sweet Verve dreams while we are there. Hopefully, I can play while I am gonen and upload right after we get back Friday. Oops, sorry probably TMI!
