Sweet Birthday Wishes

Hi crafty friends! Today I'm popping in with a super sweet card featuring the June Paper Pad Club from Not 2 Shabby! When I started stamping many moons ago, we had to create our backgrounds with stamps, since designer paper wasn't available. So for today's card I decided to get back to the basics and stamp out a background.

I started by randomly stamping the watermelon slices onto a die cut rectangle I masked around the edges with low tack tape. I then added in the accent stamps of seeds, splashes and hearts in different colors wot match the colors I chose for my colored images. I had intended to keep it uncolored, but then decided to add in the watercolor stripe print from the paper pad, so pulled out some water based inks and water colored the watermelons in my stamped background. If you're going to try this, I'd recommend starting with mixed media or watercolor paper. I didn't and wasn't able to add much shading in because of the weight of my paper.

Next up, I stamped the two watermelon slices from the Sweet Slice add on stamp set. I colored with alcohol markers then quickly fussy cut. I then sponged a soft pink ink around the bottom of a white square as a backsplash for the watermelons and stamped the juice marks.  The sentiment is from the same stamp set. It might be my favorite in the set, I love to make birthday cards!

Once I had all my elements ready, I layered them together, adding in a scallop mat with the Summer Gingham paper pad and a touch of lace. The final touch was one of the butterflies from the Watermelon Summer Ephemera.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope you have a fabulously creative day!
