So does anyone have big plans for the weekend? Mark and I are going shopping for a new TV stand for the 50" plasma he just ordered. He's thinking modern and geeky - I'm thinking classic and stylish. Wonder who will win? ;)
Today I'm featuring a card I made for Amy's birthday. I've been impatiently waiting for her to receive it so I could share it with you all! I'm always spoiling surprises because I'm just too excited to wait, so I was very proud that I didn't spill the beans before Amy got her package! I wanted to make a card that Amy would really like, so I tried to incorporate a few things I admire about her card-making style. First of all, I just love her mix and match style of bright, bold patterned paper and colors. I'm still not brave enough to pick papers blindfolded like she did last week, but she has inspired me to make bolder pattern and color choices than I've ever done before. I also enjoy the way she often mixes circle and square elements on a layout, and how she uses the negative image of her scalloped borders on her cards.
Okay, so those are the things I had in mind when I sat down to make the card. I started by coloring a Stampendous bee image that Beate sent me with prismacolors and gamsol. Next I used my Aquapainter and a Bordering Blue Watercolor Wonder Crayon to add a light shadow all around the image. I sketched a frame with a black marker and then colored with Barely Banana reinker and an Aquapainter and matted on some Cosmo Cricket Dutch Girl paper. I then cut a small oval punch in half and placed in opposite corners of the panel, securing with little flower brads from Making Memories.
Next I stamped It's Your Day from The Cat's Pajamas in Real Red, sketched a frame and colored around it with Barely Banana and matted on patterned paper and then on a Giga Scallloped circle punch of Dutch Girl paper. next I took a 12" strip of paper and used my slit punch to make a scalloped border all the way across it. I then cut the strip in 1/2 so I had two 6" strips of the postive and negative borders. I used a 1/4" circle punch to add holes in each scallop and then glued the two border pieces staggered on a Bazzill Pale Yellow 6" x 6" card base. I finished off with a May Arts polka dot bow, some pop dots on the scalloped circle and stickles around the circle and on the bee image.

I luv this card! I can't ever pull off the combos like this and I am so jealous it's so purty!! :D
I loved this card on your blog and Amy's!! The colors are beautiful, the PP goes so perfectly together and your image is flawless. And on and on.... We have a hideously big (57") televion that hubby had prior to our marriage (it's a good thing for him that he got it before I was around.) I'm usually pretty flexible about things BUT I do hate that this huge THING is the central point of my Great Room Decor. I'm rootin' for ya gal!
Completely cute card! Thanks for the link to Amy's blog...more fun and great cards to look at! My bet for winning the TV stand design is on you...unless you trade your win for more stamping stuff!! Someone giving in can be profitable!!
