Joseph's Coat

Hi friends! I'm popping in today with a fun card I created for this week's Technique Lover's Challenge over at Splitcoaststampers. For this challenge I tried something that's been around for years, but I've never tried, the Joseph's Coat Technique. Back in the dawn of stamping this was all the rage with glossy cardstock and a brayer, but I was always a little too afraid to cover up all the color with black ink! Fast forward many years, and now I'm a much more adventurous soul!

I started with some white cardstock. Knowing I wanted to use the solid stamps from the Happy Irises set (this one's currently part of the Overstock Sale!), I set out with a color pattern in mind for my base ink blending.  I started at the bottom of my panel with distress oxides, blending dark to light greens, then moved up the panel from light to dark purples. Once that was done, I heat set everything and started stamping the solid iris pieces from Happy Irises in clear embossing ink and then embossed with clear embossing powder.  Once this was done, I blended chipped sapphire over the entire panel, leaving less at the top for a little purple to show through.

Next, I wiped off the embossed parts to have them show through, made sure the top of my panel was thoroughly dry and embossed the sentiment from Timeless Hymns in white.  To add a little texture, I spritzed some water on the finished piece and blotted off, then inked the edges with a bit more chipped sapphire and adhered on a foam sheet to an A2 card base.  Super fun technique, and way less intimidating than it used to be!

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope you have a fabulously creative day!
