Shabby Autumn Coffee Ornament

Hi friends! I've got a fun little project to share with you today. A couple of weeks ago I saw a cute little Santa Baby coffee cup shaker card over on Created to Create's YouTube channel and just had to get myself the dies to make my own. My mind immediately went to making some fun ornaments/wall decor shakers. As I'll hopefully have a bit more time to work on crafty things this fall, I plan on making Christmas versions of these for our extended family gift exchange.

For my initial let's-see-how-this-goes-because-shakers-and-I-don't-usually-get-along attempt, I pulled out the oh-so-gorgeous Amber Moon collection from Prima and cut pieces with the Honey Bee Coffee Cup Card Dies. I also cut a piece of acetate and some pieces from fun foam to make the shaker. The base die is actually for making a foldover card, but I only cut from the fold down for the base. Next time I think I'll just glue the two flaps together for a sturdier base layer. The hardest part for me was aligning the foam, as the thin sides didn't want to stay true to shape. Inside the shaker, I tucked in the last remaining harvest gold sequins from Verve (sniff, sniff), some gold star confetti and a pumpkin sticker from Hobby Lobby. I didn't realize it was a super sticky fully adhesive backed sticker until I tucked it down in there and couldn't get it out. Oh well, live and learn!

For the topper I embossed the sending you a latte love sentiment from the Hero Arts MMH August main kit on the top in gold. There are a few sentiments in this set that fit perfectly on the lid of this die. Hooray! I even used some of the ribbon that my kit was packaged with for the hanging loop to turn this into an ornament.

For embellishment, I added a strip of square rhinestones I had in my stash, then layered some flowers, leaves and gold faux pearl string to make a fun accent. I tied a bit of gold cording around the top of the lid and embellished with a rhinestone.

For my Christmas ones, I plan on backing the ornaments in felt, but for this one, I wanted to tuck in a gift card for the recipient. So I cut the cup again from some coordinating Amber Moon paper, cut part way up, added a bit of gold paper for trim and used a circle punch to create a thumb hole for a gift card pocket. I finished with a topper with the same sentiment and tucked a leaf in with the gift card.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope you have a fabulous start to your weekend!

Laughed at your comment that you don't usually get along with shakers. I've made exactly one, so I know what you mean.

This is gorgeous, and I love it as a gift card holder. Can't wait to see the Christmas version in felt!

What a fun shaker ornament/gift card holder Julee. Love that pumpkin sticker, and it did sort of land in the 'right' place slightly to one side of the flower!
Blessings
