You're The Best

Hi friends! Today is my first full day of no Verve and no kids in the house. What should I do with my one wild and precious life? {grin} The boys have an AMAZING teacher who got her teaching degree from NNU, where I went to college many moons ago. And to ease a lot of my fears about how the boys would adjust to a typical classroom environment, her classroom is entirely choose your own seating... wiggle seats, wiggle stools, stability balls, floor mats, cushions, bean bags, scoop chairs, etc. There are so many options for little boys who needs extra sensory input. Hooray! Here are their smiling faces yesterday before we left for their first day. They sure are growing up!

I also have a card to share today that I made last week, but with back to school shopping, activities and the big first day, this is the first time I've had to blog it.

I had to play again with that 3D Lumber texture fade. It is just so amazing! Here I started with kraft cardstock, embossed with the folder, then sponged on gathered twigs and ground espresso distress oxides. I wanted a little more gradation, so swiped on some white heavy gesso. Since the oxides react with liquid, the gesso mixed with the brown inks, giving a nice natural effect.

Next I moved onto this gorgeous Antique Rose stamp from Hero Arts (also available as a clear set).  I seriously love this image! I stamped in intense black twice and then colored with Arteza brush pens and a wink of stella pen.  I fussy cut and layered the two images, then accented with nuvo ebony black crystal drops. The leaves were from a kit club a million years ago. They're a tan color and not much too look at normally, but embossing them with the 3D Lumber folder and then sponging the distress oxides seemed to liven them up a bit.

The sentiment is from the Many Everyday Messages set, embossed in white on black cardstock.  For the layout, I added a black skewed panel that is also embossed with the same folder, then wiped lightly with a white soft pastel to help show off the texture. I finished with a few scattered pearls.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope you have a fabulous week!

Oh Julee - what a fabulous classroom your boys are in. So far removed from how my children started school (long ago), my Grandies had loads of room to move - things have changed so much!
Love your card - that texture folder is amazing, and I love how you have accented the texture with colour. The rose is so dramatic against the textural background

The turquoise flower is amazing, and I am enchanted with the embossed background. Tracking says that my "Lumber" embossing folder will be here Friday. Can't wait to experiment.

The photo of the twins is darling! Hope that their school year is lots of fun. I would love to have more of those seating options available in my classroom:)
