Graffiti Change

Hi friends!  I got a little pocket of time to stamp yesterday, so decided to play along with the current Curtain Call Inspiration Challenge.  It's their 1st anniversary and Verve and a whole bunch of other companies are sponsoring prizes, so be sure to check it out.

I was itching to do a little mixed-media, so as I looked at the inspiration photo all those squares reminded me of a lattice stencil I just got.  So I pulled it out along with some light modeling paste and slathered it on pretty quick to create the texture on a piece of white cardstock.  I let this die and then began adding distress stains and paints to cover the background, then tore a portion of it to fit my card.

Next I stamped the Gandhi quote from Moments Remembered in archival black onto transparency and layered over my colored "wall" to give a pretty graffiti look to it.  Next I finger painted some of the leftover paint onto some white cardstock, hit it with the heat gun and then stamped the large feather from Moments Remembered in archival ink over it.  This piece is hand cut and popped up over the sentiment and "wall.".  I added a little background piece with a piece of white cardstock embossed with the square lattice embossing folder and then added everything to a kraft card base, sponged with walnut stain and distressed a bit.

Thanks so much for stopping by today.  I hope you have a wonderful day.

Sailor Birthday

Hi friends!  It's Monday again and time for another Mojo Monday sketch.  This week's is pretty simple, which means it has plenty of room to dress it up, which is just what I did with my card.

My card is inspired by this week's Curtain Call Challenge - Feeling Nautical.  Stacey has re-opened her inspiration challenge and Verve is sponsoring this week's grand re-opening celebration.  So be sure to head on over there for all the festivities and some fabulous inspiration from her all-star design team.

I loved so much about the inspiration photo that I decided to do a collage. From my first look, I jotted down postage stamp, nautical, yellow, blue, sand, foliage and woodgrain and that was my jumping off point.

I loved the tank top with just a portion of the anchor showing, so I embossed the anchor image from Strong Anchor on white paper then did a resist technique with a blue gelato.  The foliage is stamped with the Leaves Plain Jane and I fussy cut one for an accent.  The sweet little ship's wheel charm is from Pizzazz Aplenty and I wrapped it around the Stamp Trio CutUps die cut.  For my ribbon accent, I went with a swatch of washi tape, a scrap of ribbon from the Red, White and Beautiful Ribbon Collection and a prima butterfly.

The sentiment is from Borderline and embossed on a piece of dp painted with gesso.  I finished off with some woodgrain embossing and some scattered bling.
