Pirates and Bees Oh My!

I loved Beate's sketch for her weekend challenge, so I had to sit down at my desk and play a little. The first card I made was with another of those cuddly little Stampendous bee images, which I colored with Prismacolor pencils and Gamsol. I then sketched a frame around the edge, matted on Basic Black and then on a Real Red Mega Scalloped Circle Punch. I think the black & white background paper is from the December 2006 Self-Addressed Kit (sorry I can't remember who manufactured the paper). The yellow paper is from the K & Company Happy Trails paper pad. I cut the wavy borders on the top and bottom with my Scallop blade for my Cutterpede. The flowers are Prima daisies and the button brads are from Making Memories. I stamped bee happy with my Karen Foster Snap Stamps and doodled a little trail with my black pen. I finished the card off with some Stardust Stickles and more of the beautiful May Arts ribbon Beate sent me in my prize pack.

The second card was just something I was playing at. I just got some of The Cat's Pajamas pirate stamps last week and wanted to test them out. Shannan T. helped me get my hands ona a very hard to find retired Linograph stamp a while back and I've been so busy I haven't had a chance to play with it, so I decided to just play around and this is what I ended up with. Not the greatest card in the world, but I think Errol is so cute that it doesn't really matter. :) I stamped Errol in Ancient Page Coal Black and colored in with Primacolors and Gamsol and made a shadow around him with a Bordering Blue Watercolor Crayon and my aquapainter. I sketched a frame around him and then layered on black, red, and black larger circles with holes pierced in them. I was originally trying for a porthole effect, but it didn't really pan out. Next I took a strip of Sahara Sand and ran it through my Cuttlebug and then stamped the dots from Itty Bitty Backgrounds in Sahara Sand and pierced holes across the top and bottom.

The background is Bordering Blue stamped with Linograph in the same color ink and adhered to a Basic Black 5.25" square card base with silver eyelets. The sentiment is Ahoy There! from The Cat's Pajamas. The three side emebellishments are Little Pieces stamped on Sahara Sand and adhered to Real Red card stock and covered with Crystal Effects.

I was on a roll and having fun, so I made a third card using this sketch with some more of my pirate stamps. I started by stamping the Pirate Ship and coloring with Buckaroo Blue reinker and an aquapen. Next I matted on Basic Black and then on a Mega Scalloped Circle Punch that I sponged around the edges. I then punched a hole in each scallop with my 1/16" circle punch and to try something new I snipped between each scallop to the inner mat and gently folded every other scallop forward for some visual interest.
Next I Cuttlebugged the piece of Buckaroo Blue and the Basic Black card stock with my D'Vine Swirls embossing folder. This is a great layout for backgrounds and Cuttlebug embossing, because the strip of paper can hide any seams, since background normally won't fit a 5.25" square card. Next I added some silver eyelets on the top and bottom (although I didn't like how it turned out) of the black strip and added 3 Bazzill Bling brads down the side. The sentiment is The Cat's Pajamas Feelin' Shipshape and is stamped in Coal Black and the corners are rounded for a little tab. I then wanted to give the swirls a foamy wave look, and since Stampin' Up cardstock doesn't have a white core, I decided to add some Ice Stickles on all the swirls for a sparkly frothy look.

WOW!!!! You go girl! These are all cute and beautifully designed cards! I love your effect with cutting the scallop. I've got to try that. If you don't mind, please let me know if and when you get your blog candy. Hubby mailed it from work and I recently learned that things are taking a while to reach there destination.
