Rule Breaker

Well, yesterday Colleen's Thursday Throwdown was a challenge to do SCS125 with a few more rules.... no patterned paper, background has to be an image stamp, top panel has to be a sentiment and only 2 embellishments. Apparently I am known for breaking the rules, so Colleen felt the need to call Amy and I out on this one! LOL! Who me? Break rules, must be some other Julee! :) So, I thought to myself, "No problem, this is easy!" But once I got to my stamping desk I remembered that I've already made two cards with this sketch and I struggled with both of those. Simplicity really isn't my forte, and that's what this layout calls for. But the challenge was on, I couldn't back down!
So I started by stamping the Hero Arts Doodle Leaf Flower on Bashful Blue in Ancient Page Coal Black ink and coloring in with Bashful Blue marker. Next I stamped the Hero Arts Wavy Celebrate Border on Whisper White in Coal Black and highlighted with Bashful Blue marker. I matted this piece on Basic Black card stock and used my Mat Pack to pierce holes across the top and bottom of the mat. My order from Eclectic Paperie that I received yesterday decked out my Cuttlebug in some new duds, so I had to try out my new 2 step flower dies. The solid flower is cut from Bashful Blue and the outlines are cut from Basic Black. I then doodled in some markings to match the Doodle Leaf flower for some fantastic little embellishments. To finish off the card I added Stardust Stickles accents to all the flowers. As soon as I finished I got worried that maybe Stickles counts as an embellishment. And what if the 2 step dies count as 4 embellishments? Is it really true that I can't follow the rules? GASP! Guess I better make another one!

For the second card I pulled out my A Muse margarita stamps and incorporated this week's SCS Ways to Use It YoYo Yellow challenge. I randomly stamped the Margarita on Pearlized White paper in Coal Black and colored in with Prismacolor pencils, Gamsol and YoYo Yellow and Glorious Green markers. I added some flecks with the makers all over the background to break up the white space and then doodled a rough frame around the edge. Next I stamped the sentiment on Glorious Green and matted on YoYo Yellow using the ticket corner punch on the corners. I used my horizontal slot punch to make the sentiment into a ribbon slider and added two types of ribbon, tied in a knot. It took everything within me not to reach for some glitter to give the margaritas a little frost, but still unsure of the status of glitter as an embellishment, I was determined to stay within the rules.

Oh, and I received some awesome happy mail yesterday! The first was the blog candy package I won from Beate's blog on Monday. She's a speedy little shipper! Included was this lovely Doodle This card, an assortment of beautiful May Arts ribbons and some of those adorable bee images! The card is absolutely gorgeous and I love the way it folds. Thanks so much Beate, I can't wait to play with my goodies.

I also received a really sweet note and baggie full of cute embellishments and tags from Diane L.! Thanks so much, I really appreciate it and was so touched when I read your sweet note.

These are both so great! Love the way you added the ribbon on the yellow one and the blue/black color combo on the other, with its blue on blue coloring in the flowers.

Okay...I take it back...you CAN follow rules! *grin* I LOVE both of your cards. The first one is so lovely...you are killing me with that doodle set! (I would not count glitter as an embellishment...because then I would have to count doodled frames too and then I would have failed my own challenge!) Your second card is so FUN!

Thanks for playing girlie...you are awesome!
