And now for something completely different....

No, your eyes do not deceive you! It's a scrapbook page on MY blog! Yes, I'm a card maker. No, I'm not a scrapper. What happened??? Well, I guess I'm going through what I would call creative growing pains. Have you had those? You know, where you're just the teensiest bit bored of doing the same thing day after day? That's how I've been feeling lately about making cards, so I'm just putting it out there. After coming up with a new card layout every week for coming on 2 years, plus all my other stamping commitments, I'm just itching for something different to stretch me creatively. So, over the next little while you'll probably be seeing some "different" things here at Poetic Artistry. And probably not quite as many posts.

But don't worry, everything is A-okay! Change is sometimes good. Without it we don't grow as artists. Without it we don't grow as people. And that's what I want to do...

Grow... Flourish... Thrive.

So, I'll be sticking my little crafting neck out into unfamiliar waters to see if I can bring a little spark back into my stamp studio. And while I'm doing that, you might just get a few more of my thoughts and a few less of my creations. I love to write. From the time I could print a complete sentence, I was always writing some sort of short story or poem. I started this blog to get me back in the practice of writing every day but somewhere along the way it just became an instruction manual for making cards. And that's okay, but it's like being forced to ride the ferris wheel again and again when all you really want to do is ride the roller coaster. Know what I mean? I'm looking for excitement!!! :) So, I hope you and your cup of caffeine will continue to join me for my creative journey, even if I don't tell you exactly how I made every little creation here. And I hope you'll take a minute or two today to think about something in your world that could use a little change. In the words of Sheryl Crow... "A change will do you good!"

Julee--I can totally hear you. I took awhile off and I love th instant gratification of a car. I don't scrap and want to but can't get into it. I have too many pics and not enough journaling to remember the past. That said, your page is great and your dh is a hottie :-)

You know, the only thing I've scrapbooked are a few photos for OTHER people, some arboretum photos, and I have an album that I scrapbook cards we give each other in. I need to get back to doing that, it's been over a year now since I have. This is an awesome page though! You'd never know you were not a scrapper.

I can't wait to see how you continue to stretch your aristic wings!

I don't scrapbook - but that's a great layout! We can always get inspired from your other projects...either to do other things or to try those color combos, etc. Change is good - agreed.

Oh Julee, this is such a wonderful layout for a great scrapbook page. What an adorable picture of you two. I haven't scrapbooked in years, since I discovered stamping. I just love the quick, instant gratification I get from completing a card, and my scrapbook pages seem to take me forever to complete. You did a fantastic job! TSF

What a gorgeous couple! I've been making cards for going on 7 years and have not ONCE tried scrapbooking. Somehow THAT scares me - though someone once told me.... "You can do it. It's just a BIG card." But ya know, I still HAVEN'T tried it. I know exactly what you're saying and I sincerely thank you for going outside your box. You are a good inspiration for me. Thank you.

I know just what you mean about wanting to branch out. I've felt the same way, except in reverse. I've been scrapping for years and have just started making cards as a change. You are so talented, it will be fun to see what you come up with!

Cute cute!!!! I am working with the same paper this week to stretch MY wings...trying to combine patterns. Yes, we all must take the time to try new things, or we'd never grow!

Also, I thank you for saying 'Mark & me' instead of 'Mark & I'. ;-)

Hi Julie,
i look forward to your future posts for scrapping. It is one of the more challenging aspects of stamping for me. I love to make cards with stamps but have difficulty with scrapping.
Not sure why

Julee- I check your site almost every day, even though I never post...just for the inspiration. Thanks for that! I teach writing, and as a crafter, I know that sometimes people find their voices in the least-expected places. Congrats on trusting yours! Keep it up.

No worries, Julee. I'm feeling the scrapbooking itch again myself lately. I was once mainly a scrapbooker. Scrapbooking is a wonderful thing to do for posterity and for yourself, so go for it! You are definitely off to a great start!

Julee - Totally understand the reaching outside your box so you can grow. So reach out and see what comes. I can see it now (or maybe I am hoping for) Mojo Monthly scrapbook sketch challenges! I would totally be in for that!

I also used the awesome Bittersweet DP for a scrapbook page this weekend. Check it out at http://craftyengineering.blogspot.com/2009/01/bittersweet-scrapbook-page.html

I am so proud of it!

How absolutely beautiful! Whenever cardmaking tends to bore me, I always turn back to my scrapbooking. Somehow, creating in a larger area seems to bring new ideas to my mind. Both are very fulfilling and rewarding, so I'd never give up either one. TFS and have fun!

The timing of your post matches my own artistic journey exactly. i've been getting a bit bored and stuck when it comes to card-making and have been diving back into my art journal for a change of pace. i know i'll always make cards - they're quick, fun and easy - but i'm looking to branch out and return to the long list of various crafts i once took part in.
This is a great page! TFS!

OMG! I love this scrapbook page! IT is stunning! There is something as scrapbooker I remember to the cardmakers. "A scrapbook page is just a bigger card. Instead of a main stamped image you use a pictures". That's it!

You did great! TFS!
