A Broken Tradition

Eleven years ago today, Mark and I went on our first date. Every year since then we've done something special to celebrate. It's tradition. And I'm all about tradition. (And just a little about any excuse to celebrate! LOL) But this year he had to go off and go hunting for the entire week. I'm trying to be a big girl and not pout, but I'm really bummed about him not being here. Do you ever start bumming and just find it hard to be creative? I just sat and stared at my stamping desk for hours last night, then finally gave up and went and did some computer work. Isn't that terrible? I actually CHOSE to do work over stamping! It somehow seemed less daunting. So anyway, this is the card I worked on yesterday. I'm still not happy with it, but I took a picture to share with y'all anyway. The sketch is Beate's Weekend Sketch #24, which I flipped horizontally.

I started by randomly stamping three of the snowflakes from Winter Wonder in Always Artichoke and Certainly Celery on white cardstock. Next I layered a piece of vellum over the top and stamped Joy to the World in Always Artichoke and embossed with clear embossing powder. I layered this on Always Artichoke and added four pewter brads in the corners. Next I glued some Always Artichoke grosgrain ribbon tabs to the back of the panel. The dp is Stampin Up, but I can't remember the name right now. I actually pulled out my Janome Sew Mini again and was able to change the thread AND the bobbin without even looking at the manual! Hooray! There's hope for the sewing challenged! LOL! I did a zigzag stitch on the edges of the horizontal panel and then added just a few stitches on two sides of the stamped snowflake panel. I wanted to stitch all the way around, but I had already added the brads and didn't want to attempt to take them out.

The snowflake is a Martha Stewart punch that I painted with a mixture of diamond glaze and a smidgeon of glitter. I love doing this, because not only does it make the punch super sparkly, it adds some thickness and makes it just a bit sturdier of an embellishment. Next I glued it all down and it looked a little too boxy, so I cut off the corners of a super jumbo scallop square punch and added them as corner accents to the card. To finish it off I added a few little rhinestones to each of the corner accents.

I love how the vellum softens the color.

So just delay your celebration a few days & celebrate the fact that you're still together after so many years. Be happy!

Your card is fabulous!! Don't dwell too much.. he will be back and you will get to celebrate.. only just a few days off... while he is out.. think about ways to welcome him back and celebrate. Let him know that you missed him and how important this day is. Have fun and thank you for sharing your creativeness with us!!!

Yes, I totally know what you mean. I've had it happen to me several times. Thankfully it doesn't last too long.

I really like how your card turned out. Flipping it horizontally looks great.

I hope you have a happy reunion/celebration when your hubby returns.

Sincerely,
NG.

the card is pretty. you are allowed to be disappointed. it is something I am sure that you look forward to. why don't you just do it when he gets home? the day is special but, the time spent together is what matters right?

Thanks for the link to the fun quiz! I am only 56% perfectionist. I felt so bad for you! :( Hopefully, you can get together with him when he gets back!

Last time I was bummin' I went on a little online shopping spree. Hee hee. I got all the square Nestablities and a few of the new Ellzybells stamps. Now I just have to find time to use the stuff. Hope you're feeling better. I really do like your card though. The vellum makes those snowflakes so soft.

This card is gorgeous! WOW! Sorry your tradition has been broken. . .that's a bummer, but just keep thinking about the Melting Pot! :) Hope you have a wonderful night when you DO celebrate!

I thought I was a total perfectionist too -- but I only got a 94% on the quiz!!! I also know what you're going through with your husband. My husband travels a fair amount -- when he's gone, it would be the perfect time to get a lot accomplished. Instead I wander around the house and get nothing done!!
