Winging It

Today's cards both used my card contest sketch. I don't usually do many cards from the same sketch, but I was in one of those "I want to stamp, but I don't want to think" moods, so I pulled out the sketch again. Sketches are absolutely perfect for those times when I don't want to be bothered with layout decisions. Just pure stamping bliss. :)

I began by stamping the butterfly from the Autumn Leaves Second Nature set in Ancient Page Coal Black on pearlized white card stock. I then colored in with Prismacolor pencils and gamsol and traced over the image with a Sakura Black Glaze pen. I then punched out the image using a Marvy Mega circle punch and matted on a Perfect Plum Giga scalloped circle. Then I doodled around the edges of both circles to make the image pop.

I cut a 3.75" by 3.5" piece of Pale Plum and a 3.75" by 1.5" piece of Perfect Plum and ran them both through my Cuttlebug using the Bloom Dots embossing folder. Next I matted the two pieces on a 4" by 5.25" piece of Basic Black and wrapped black organdy ribbon and plum grosgrain ribbon around the panel and tied in a knot. I then adhered the scalloped circle with pop up glue dots, added three little rhinestone flowers (JoAnn's $1 bin) and matted the whole thing on a Perfect Plum card base.

The second card uses images from my new Art Warehouse Summer Vibe stamp set. I stamped the large flower on Very Vanilla with Night of Navy and then colored in the center with my aquapainter. Next I cut a circle out with my Creative Memories Circle Cutter, distressed the edges with my Tonic paper distresser and Close to Cocoa ink. I then cut out a larger circle, traced it on Night of Navy card stock and cut around the tracings with my Fiskars Colonial decorative edged scissors. For the two panels I stamped Linen in Close to Cocoa and then sponged around the edges with Close to Cocoa ink. Then I stamped the smaller flower three times and colored the centers with an aquapainter. I matted onto Night of Navy card stock, wrapped some twill tape, inked in Close to Cocoa and some Hodgepodge Hardware. For the final touches, I matted on a Cranberry Crisp card base and stamped For You from Fancy Flexible Phrases on the twill tape in Cranberry Crisp. I used my Night of Navy marker for some stitching around the circle and then painted Crystal Effects on the center of the large flower.

So there you have it, two very easy cards with very different looks. I even gave you measurements, so now you have no excuses for not entering my contest, right? ;)

Oooh! How pretty! The two purples look so classically femine together, esp. with the flowered bg.

Julee, as always, your cards are awesome! Have you ever thought of publishing a how-to book? I'd definitely be in the long line-up for it!
